BioBlitzes

Richard leading a bug walk on the Oxford BioBlitz 2012.
BioBlitzes are 24-hour or longer events where naturalists and scientists come together with members of the public to attempt to identify and count all the species within a given area. From 2010 onwards, I have attended and contributed to more than 60 national BioBlitz events. I annually attend the Marine Biological Association BioBlitz in Plymouth and the Bristol Natural History Consortium BioBlitzes in particular. In addition to meeting up with friends, exploring new places and contributing to the biological records, something exciting always turns up!

Training Days

Since joining the Bumblebee Conservation Trust in 2013, I have run hundreds of bumblebee identification courses across the UK, from Newquay all the way up to the Orkney Isles. From these events I have trained up several thousand BBCT volunteers and still counting!

I also run training workshops on ladybird identification, including larvae and the micro-ladybird species, as well as shieldbugs and beetles. I have run these for  a wide range of organisations including multiple Wildlife Trusts, the Field Studies Council and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.

Please contact me using the contact form if you are interested in these training workshops.

Speaking engagements

Each year I am invited to speak at half a dozen of local natural history groups (e.g. Bristol Naturalist Society, Leicester Literary & Philosophical Society) and general interest groups (e.g. Womens' Institute), generally about ladybirds, bumblebees, and gardening for invertebrates.

In addition to research conferences, I have been invited to speak to students at universities including Bristol, Reading, and the University of Worcester.

Please contact me using the contact form if you are interested engaging me as a speaker.
